The G.P. Birla Scholarship

What is the G.P. Birla Scholarship?

The G.P. Birla Scholarship is a program that helps students from West Bengal who have passed their class XII exams with high marks and have a family income of less than Rs. 3,00,000 per year. The scholarship is meant to help these students pursue further studies in any stream, including Science, Commerce, Arts, Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Law, or professional courses such as Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretaryship, and Cost Accountancy.

Who is eligible for the scholarship?

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Passed class XII examination in the year 2023
  • Secured 85% marks or more from WBCHSE or 90% or more from ISC/CBSE
  • Family income is less than Rs. 3,00,000/- per year
  • Need financial help to pursue further studies

For students who are extra meritorious, the maximum family income criteria may be relaxed in specific cases at the discretion of the Trustees.

What does the scholarship cover?

The scholarship amount, which is granted to a limited number of selected students, will cover tuition fees and hostel fees (where applicable), subject to a ceiling of Rs. 50,000/- per student per year. The scholarship will be granted to students for one year at a time and will be continued upon satisfactory performance by the student in the preceding year, as evaluated by the Trust, up to completion of the course subject to a ceiling of 4 years, on a yearly basis. An additional one-time payment of Rs. 7000/- towards the purchase of books in the 1st year will also be given.

How are students selected for the scholarship?

An Expert Panel, which presently includes Prof. Sumanta Basu of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata, and Dr. Rajib Das of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, will review the applications received and interview shortlisted prospective candidates. The decision of the Expert Panel will be final.

Eligible students who meet the above criteria of merit and need financial assistance for pursuing further studies may apply in the prescribed form available in the application section.
