TRANSFORMATION  OF SENTENCES

Ans. All the heart which is mighty is lying still.

6)These days all trains are crowded. (Change into a Negative sentence) [Annual Exam – 2014]

Ans. These days no train is less crowded.

7)Ben Price knew Jimmy’s habits. (Change into a Negative sentence) [Annual Exam – 2016]

Ans. Jimmy’s habits were not unknown to Ben Price.

JOINING  OF  SENTENCES

1)She produced a two-anna bit from a knot in her saree. She dismissed the coolie. (Join into a single sentence) [Annual Exam – 2014, 2020]

Ans. Producing a two-anna bit from a knot in her saree, she dismissed the coolie. (Simple)

OR. She dismissed the coolie after producing  a two-anna bit from a knot which was in her saree. (Complex)

OR. She dismissed the coolie after producing a two-anna bit from a knot in her saree and dismissed the coolie. (Compound)

2)He was dismayed. The compartment was empty. (Join into a simple sentence) [Annual Exam – 2016]

Ans. The compartment being empty, he was dismayed. (Absolute Phrase)

OR. He was dismayed for the emptiness of the compartment. (Preposition)

3)The poor people are very great people. They can teach us many beautiful things. (Join the sentences with a relative clause) [Annual Exam – 2018]

Ans.  The poor people who are very great people can teach us many beautiful things.

4)Mr. Sivasanker was unable to make up his mind. He called his wife. (Join into a single sentence) [Annual Exam – 2019]

Ans. Being unable to make up his mind, Mr. Sivasanker called his wife. (Simple)

SPLITTING  INTO  TWO  SIMPLE  SENTENCES

1)He got his keys and went upstairs. [Annual Exam – 2014]

Ans. He got his keys. He went upstairs.

2)The engine gave another short whistle and the train began to move. [Annual Exam – 2015]

Ans. The engine gave another short whistle. It began to move.

3)She had to go back into the kitchen for a moment because she had left something  in the oven. [Annual Exam – 2016]

Ans. She had left something in the oven. She had to go back into the kitchen for a moment.

4)The mirror was obviously made in India. [Annual Exam – 2016]

Ans. The mirror was made in India. It is obvious.

5)They are hurt because they are forgotten. [Annual Exam – 2017]   

Ans. They are forgotten. So,they are hurt.

6)He set his suitcase on the table and opened it out flat. [Annual Exam – 2018]  

Ans. He set his suitcase on the table. He opened it out flat.

7)I am grateful what I have received. [Annual Exam – 2019]    

Ans. I have received something. So, I am grateful.

8)The fellow, with his knowledge of the household might  come at night and loot. [Annual Exam – 2020]

Ans. The fellow had the knowledge of the household. He might come at night and loot.    

              INTERCHANGE  OF  PARTS  OF  SPEECH
             

1)Fine arts liberates our minds from the constraints of sorrow. (Use the noun form of ‘liberates’) [Annual Exam – 2014]

Ans. Fine arts gives liberation to our minds from the constraints of sorrow.

2)Leela’s face became red. (Rewrite using the verb form of ‘red’) [Annual Exam – 2015, 2018]

Ans. Leela’s face reddened.

3) I believe that we are not real social workers. (Rewrite the sentence using the noun form of ‘believe’) [Annual Exam – 2016]

Ans. It is my belief that we are not real social workers.

4)And then Ben Price acted rather strangely. (Rewrite using the adjective form of ‘strangely’) [Annual Exam – 2017]
