Kailash Satyarthi, born as Kailash Sharma on 11th January 1954 in the Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh, is a renowned social activist and Nobel laureate. He began his educational journey at Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School and later pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering from Samrat Ashok Technological Institute in Vidisha. Driven by a passion for knowledge, Kailash further obtained a post-graduate degree in high-voltage engineering.

Initially, Kailash worked as a lecturer in a college in Bhopal. However, his strong sense of justice and desire to make a difference led him to abandon teaching in 1980. In the same year, Kailash founded the ‘Bachpan Bachao Andolan’ (Save the Childhood Movement), an organization aimed at combating child labour and promoting children’s rights. His tireless efforts in this field caught the attention of the International Centre on Child Labour and Education (ICCLE), where he played a crucial role in connecting the child labour movement with initiatives striving for education for all.

Kailash Satyarthi’s relentless advocacy and unwavering commitment to uplifting children from exploitative labour conditions earned him global recognition. His remarkable work garnered the attention of the Nobel committee, and in 2014, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary efforts to protect children’s rights and ensure their access to education.
