Exercise 8

Write a story in about 100 words using the given hints. Give a suitable title to the story:

Hints: two cats find a piece of bread-fight over it-monkey arrives-decides to settle the dispute-monkey breaks the bread into two-uneven size-eats a portion from the larger share-dispute continues-monkey eats both pieces of bread

Ans:

A CLEVER MONKEY AND TWO FOOLISH CATS

Once upon a time there lived two cats in a bakery. They were good friends. One day, they were wandering in search of food. Suddenly they found a big piece of bread. They ran to a forest with it and decided to break it into two equal pieces. But the pieces were not equal. So they were fighting over it. A monkey was passing by at that time. He arrived there and decided to settle the dispute. The cats also agreed to his proposal. The clever monkey at first broke it into two unequal portions. Then he said,” I think this piece is larger than this one.” So, he took a large bite from the larger portion of the bread to make it smaller than the small one. Thus he went on to make two pieces unequal to make them equal. So the dispute continued. Finally, the monkey ate both the pieces of the bread and said,” Goodbye fools” and left the place.

Moral: A fool believes everything.

Hints: your place of stay- early morning sky- description of the nature around- sounds that are heard- reasons for enjoyment -conclusion.

My Locality at Dawn

The name of my village is Nandanpur. It is in the district of Jalpaiguri. It is beautiful place far from the madding crowd. The place looks absolutely pleasant at dawn. It is refreshing to walk along a village path. The ponds look like a clear mirror that reflect the vast sky. The air is fresh. The vast green fields and fresh breeze are a pleasant experience. Sounds of sparrow, thrush etc are heard. The farmers go to cultivate their lands. Walking at dawn gives me an opportunity to get closer to nature. The sights and sounds of nature in my locality soothe both my body and mind.
