“You must take that dog out,” he said.

“I shall certainly do nothing of the kind. You can take my name and address,” said the woman. She had evidently expected the challenge and knew the reply.

“You must take the dog out—that’s my order.”

“I won’t go on the top of the bus in such weather. It would kill me,” said the woman.
“এ জাতীয় আবহাওয়ায় আমি বাসের শীর্ষে যাব না। এটা আমাকে মেরে ফেলবে, “মহিলাটি বলেছিলেন।
“Certainly not,” said her lady companion. “You’ve got a cough as it is.”

“It’s nonsense,” said her male companion.

The conductor pulled (টান দিয়েছিল) the bell, and the bus stopped. “This bus doesn’t go on until that dog is brought out.” He stepped on to the pavement (ফুটপাত) and waited. It was his moment of triumph(বিজয়). He had the law (আইন) on his side. Everybody (প্রত্যেকে) in the bus was on the side of the lady and her dog. They talked (কথা বলছিল) in raised voices(উচ্চস্বরে):
কন্ডাক্টর বেলটি টানলেন, এবং বাস থামল। “ কুকুরটিকে বের না করা অবধি এই বাস চলবে না।” তিনি ফুটপাতে নেমে অপেক্ষা করতে লাগলেন। এটি ছিল তার বিজয়ের মুহূর্ত। আইন তাঁর পক্ষেই ছিল। বাসের ভিতরে প্রত্যেকেই মহিলা এবং তার কুকুরের পক্ষে ছিল। তারা উউচ্চস্বরে কথা বলেছিল:
“Shameful.”
“লজ্জাজনক।”
“Call the police!”
“পুলিশকে ফোন করুন!”
“Let’s all report him!”
“আসুন সবাই তাকে ব্যাপারটা জানাই!”
“Let’s make him give us our fares back.”
“আসুন ওকে আমাদের ভাড়া ফিরিয়ে দিতে বলি।”
“Yes, that’s it; let’s make him give us our fares back!”
“হ্যাঁ, এটাই; আসুন ওকে আমাদের ভাড়া ফিরিয়ে দিতে বলি!”
The little animal sat blinking (মিটমিট করে) at the dim lights(ম্লান আলো), unconscious (অচেতন) of the trouble he had caused.
ছোট্ট প্রাণীটি ম্লান আলোতে মিট করে বসেছিল, যে সমস্যার সে সৃষ্টি করেছিল সে সম্পর্কে অজ্ঞান।
The conductor came to the door. Some passengers demanded(দাবি জানাল), “Give us our fares (ভাড়া)back- you’ve engaged (নিযুক্ত) to carry us, you can’t leave (ছেড়ে দেওয়া) us here all night!” “No fares back,” said the conductor.
কন্ডাক্টর দরজাতে এসেছিলেন। কিছু যাত্রী দাবি করেছিলেন, “আমাদের ভাড়া আমাদের ফিরিয়ে দিন- আপনার কাজ আমাদের নিয়ে যাওয়া, আপনি সারা রাত এখানে আমাদের ছাড়তে পারবেন না!” “কোনও ভাড়া ফেরত দেওয়া হবে না,” কন্ডাক্টর বললেন।
Two or three passengers got out (বেড়িয়ে গেলেন) and disappeared (অদৃশ্য হয়ে গেলেন) into the night. The conductor turned on the pavement, went to the driver to have a talk with him.
দু-তিনজন যাত্রী নেমে রাতের মধ্যে অদৃশ্য হয়ে গেল।কন্ডাক্টরটি ফুটপাথ থেকে ঘুরে ড্রাইভারের দিকে গেলেন তার সাথে কথা বলার জন্য।
