Social networking sites such as WhatsApp, Facebook,Messenger, Youtube, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram etc. have created new ways to socialize and interact with the near and dear ones across the world. It offers facilities such as chat, instant messaging, photo sharing, video sharing etc. We get many news and information from social media. It also plays a significant role in trade and commerce. Social media is also a very powerful means of exercising one’s freedom of speech and expression.

It has some abuses. It is doing a lot of harm to the teenagers. Young people are so much addicted to social media. As a result, their study is deeply hampered. It is also too harmful for eyes and brain. Sometimes, people are misguided with wrong information and fake news. Social media has also become the medium of crime such as spreading of virus, pornographic material, cyber-bullying etc. Fundamentalists also use this tool to launch their target oriented propaganda.

It is clearly evident that social media has both uses and abuses like any other invention of science. It is useful and a necessity in today’s world but we have to use it consciously.
